Before joining QuantLase Lab, Dr. Pramod served as a Senior Experimental Research Scientist in Quantum Physics at AiFi Technologies LLC, UAE, from July 2019 to March 2020. His professional journey commenced with an M.Sc. in Physics in 1997 from C.C.S. University, Meerut, India, followed by an M.Phil. in Instrumentation Physics from the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT-R), Roorkee, India, in 2000.

In 2001, Dr. Pramod began his research career as a research assistant at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-B). During this tenure, he focused on optical pattern formation and self-organization in a photonic system. In 2009, he. earned his Ph.D. in Laser Technology from the School of Physical Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, India

Following the completion of his thesis, he worked as an assistant professor at Delhi University, India, from 2009 to March 2010. In April 2010, Dr. Pramod moved to France to pursue post-doctoral research at Laboratoire Commun de Métrologie LNE-CNAM, Paris, France. During this time, he focused on designing and developing a signal-resonant optical parametric oscillator for imaging and spectroscopic purposes.

He continued his research journey as a postdoctoral research associate from 2011 to 2014 in the femtosecond laser laboratory at IISER Mohali, Punjab, India. In January 2015, Dr. Pramod commenced his Senior Laser Research Staff tenure with the Laser Physics Group at Tyndall National Institute and University College Cork, Cork, Ireland. In 2017, he joined as a Disordered Photonics Research Fellow in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Exeter, England, United Kingdom.

The Nobel Vision of Dr. Pramod: Beyond Boundaries

Dr. Pramod Kumar’s vision for Quantlase Laboratory goes far beyond traditional goals and into the domains of scientific ambition and technical innovation. At its core, his vision is focused on scientific excellence, tech advancement, and social influence.

The pursuit of cutting-edge research is vital in photonics and quantum physics to achieve this goal. Dr. Pramod envisions Quantlase Laboratory as a crucible for pioneering research that pushes the limits of what is conceivable when it comes to the quantum manipulation and control of light.

Additionally, Dr. Pramod’s vision goes beyond the walls of the laboratory and includes a dedication to economic growth and societal impact. He envisions Quantlase Laboratory as a catalyst for innovation-driven economic development, fostering collaborations with industry partners and government agencies to translate scientific discoveries into real-world solutions.

Steering Scientific Research Toward a Sustainable Future

As the Founding Director of research at QuantLase Laboratory, Dr. Kumar plays a key role in leading scientific moves toward a sustainable future that has a great effect on the welfare of society. Unlike conventional positions, his designation covers a wide range of scientific, technological, and social roles.

Scientifically, he is at the forefront of conceiving and implementing cutting-edge solutions for difficult problems. His role includes designing and spearheading the creation of cutting-edge photonics technology with real-world applications and advancing scientific knowledge.

Technologically, Dr. Pramod is at the forefront of envisioning and implementing advanced solutions for complex challenges. His responsibilities include conceptualizing and driving the development of novel photonics technologies that not only advance scientific understanding but also have practical applications.

On a societal level, Dr. Pramod’s role extends to cultivating an environment that nurtures innovation and contributes to the betterment of society. He makes it easier to turn scientific findings into workable solutions by promoting partnerships with businesses, government, and academic institutions.

A Remarkable Creation by Dr. Pramod: Laser-based DPI Technology

Among Dr. Pramod’s noteworthy contributions is the invention of a laser-based imaging technique, “Diffractive Phase Interferometry,” specifically designed for screening COVID-19 infections. This groundbreaking technique examines tiny blood samples, enabling screening within seconds.

The diagnostic system built around laser-based DPI technology goes beyond conventional methods. It uses complex algorithms designed specifically for the unique properties of COVID-19 detection. Furthermore, the diagnostic procedure effortlessly incorporates artificial intelligence (AI). This synergistic combination of advanced algorithms and AI ensures precise and efficient result prediction, a crucial aspect in managing and processing vast amounts of data, especially in extensive testing scenarios. To date, the DPI equipment, embodying this groundbreaking technology, has successfully screened nearly 7 million individuals.

Overcoming the Hurdles Along the Way

One of the paramount challenges lies in the delicate nature of quantum systems, where the slightest perturbation can induce significant effects. Achieving precise control and manipulation at the quantum level necessitates not only cutting-edge technology but also a deep understanding of quantum mechanics. To address this, Dr. Kumar’s approach involves the synergy of theoretical knowledge with practical skills to bring quantum theory and cutting-edge photonics techniques into harmony.

Another formidable hurdle is the intricacy of quantum entanglement and coherence, which are quintessential to quantum photonics applications. Maintaining and harnessing these delicate quantum phenomena for practical use requires meticulously orchestrating experimental conditions. Quantum strategy involves the development of robust protocols and innovative experimental setups, ensuring the preservation and utilization of quantum entanglement and coherence in the face of environmental challenges.

Furthermore, scalability is a problem that quantum photonics research frequently faces. There are several new challenges when moving from regulated lab settings to scalable, real-world applications. Overcoming this hurdle involves interdisciplinary collaboration, where experts in quantum physics, materials science, and engineering converge to design scalable architectures and systems.
